Oh, I'm sure they don't test all of the datasheet specs. At best they'll buy representatives of the incoming part number and sample test to meet sample specs of the target part number. Sure, testing to all of the specs of all of the replaced devices would easily be $8/device, but they're not going to do that. Too many MBAs in the world today to make that stick.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Found them, bought them and Newark.

These and some 404a's too. They seemed like newly manufactured parts to me. The leeds were thicker than germs I've bought from places like smallbear. The HFE readings were all over the place between 40 and 110 if I recall.

I don't have a real percolator or tonebender to compare things but the pedals don't sound bad

The tonebender is dark, gated and very Black Sabbath sounding and the percolator ended up a bit more tame than I expected.

Hi
I would recommend looking at Russian germanium transistors
They are cheap (you can find for $ 0.09 and if you postorat, it's cheaper).
They can be found on eBay.
Usually a small spread, a good sound

I tried МП42Б and ГТ402

> new parts is Germanium Power Devices. .... I don't know if they still do.

No. Gone over entirely to photo-diodes.

And IIRC they never did small transistors. Their original niche was HIGH!-current applications where Ge's low forward voltage over Silicon was valued. Such apps fell to MOSFETs and other schemes.
