Okay, so by that you mean the attack/release is simply set by the two pots and is not sensitive to how hard a player plays?

input to your shown circuit is labelled "gate in". this implies on/off, nothing in between. whatever you set release and attack as is what outputs each time the circuit is gated.

you can strip an envelope generator/precision rectifier [search term] circuit block from any compressor or autowah or attack delay or noise gate ...... depends what you want it to control.
