mmmm, no. consider each stage a black box. you want to put audio signal in, and listen to what comes out. you need an audio lead for in and one for out. in goes to signal to base, out goes to amp from collector. to complete all the circuits, they need a common, so the in cable ground connects to the out cable ground and the circuit ground and the supply ground.

both your in and out leads are just a cable with an isolating capacitor, to prevent nasty surprises. and instead of putting signal to the pedal input, blasting it all the way thru [or trying to] and listening at the pedal output, you go stage by stage.
