I did few measurements. When I put some sine wave at input, I get 1.52V at BC327 collector when input is 0, and 2.00V when input is maxed. Base voltage at the same transistor goes from 3.21 (zero input) to 2.12V (max input). But voltage at LM13700 pins 1/16 is always almost the same: 1.27-1.34V regarding input. Could it be LM13700 malfunctioning, or this is normal behavior?

One more question - we have a transistor buffer inside LM13700. Is it OK to use it as an input buffer for Engineer's Thumb?

That's normal: the Iabc pins are low-impedance, and will always sit at two Vbe drops above ground.
"I had an unfortunate combination of a very high-end medium-size system, with a "low price" phono preamp (external; this was the decade when phono was obsolete)."

You're right, I just saw LM13700 internal schematic and it confirms that's OK.
