Best Mod Kit company

Hi everyone sorry if this is in the wrong area but I wanted to mod my Boss SD-1 and did a basic Google search and found a lot of places offering kits like

monteallums
fromelelectronics

Are there ones that are considered good and ones to stay away from?

they're all charging a lot of money for a few $0.01 resistors and caps. in my experience monteallums have some placebo mods too... switching out components for identical values in different shapes/packages as though it makes a difference.

Why, exactly? Have you heard actual audio evidence, A/B comparison, etc? If you don't know what exactly you want to change, how will you know what to buy?

Yes the before and after audio on these mods sound good to me. Specifically the GT mod. I also found some comparison videos on YouTube that sound great

That's even better of course and probably where you ultimately end up anyway It's how many of us got here. The wish to mod something ever so slightly can turn into the desire to build new stuff real quick.

A word of caution, though: Brian Wampler's schematic in the article than deadastronaut linked has some cruciate errors. Most importantly, the ground leg off the inverting input of the first opamp stage is missing. The official schematic and some more info are found here:

the mod i like most is replacing R7 10k with a pair of in4148's to produce a ''dirty gate effect'' and crossover distortion, this adds subtile grind and more treble, which is great for boosting in to a already dirty amp!

sd1 is one of the most commonly modded pedals out there, mainly because people want to make it sound like a ts808. just search for sd1 mods on this forum, and you'll find tons of things you can try using simple resistor and cap swaps. but i'd also recommend the wampler book of pedal mods, which has some mods for the sd1 and a bunch of other pedals.
