Loud "pop" when using footswitch on "Changer" pedal

I bought one of these kits...

...as a first pedal project (on the recommendation of some people here), and it was pretty satisfying.

However, there's a loud pop when the footswitch is activated. I'm not overly fussed - it has served its purpose as a beginner's project. But I would like to move on and start a new project based on the same basic idea, and I don't want the popping on the next pedal.

Appreciate that this is a novice question, and I don't want anyone spending too much time walking me through these baby steps, but please can anyone point me in the right direction for where to read up on fixing this?

Thanks a lot.

Did you use the 2 X 1M resistors provided with the kit.??

If not, wire them between IN tip & GND and OUT tip & GND..

Ah! I wondered what those were for! They weren't in the wiring diagram.

Thanks so much!

Just so I'm clear, they go where I've marked in red, right?...

Yes..!! :icon_wink:

If pop persists, we'll proceed to LEDs RC configuration
