Hi guys,

I recently built a coloursound jumber tonebender following this layout:

I have 2 issues there:
1° I need to almost turn all the way up the volume pot to have decent amount of sound. Any idea from where the problem could come from?
2° Also I have almost no gain. Do you think it could come from the fact i replaced all the 500pf caps by 680pf caps? And replaced all the transistors (BC184C) by 2N5088 transistors?

Thanks :)

Here is the schematic:

Numbers 1° and 2° are the same complaint. It's not the parts you used.

It might be the parts you used, if those parts are of wrong value..

e.g. 82k instead of 8k2 and/or 47k instead of 470k..
Or 1k instead of 100R, or 1k5 instead of 15k or.. or..

Hello

Point 1.  Could be a number of things causing this.  Photos and voltages if you can?  Otherwise it's a guessing game.

Point 2.  No - changing transistors and those caps will not be responsible for low levels.

Good luck

Check your transistor pinouts.   If c and e are swapped you could get low gain.

If possible post voltage measurements for the transistors.

According to the water analogy of electricity, transistor leakage is caused by holes.

Thanks everyone!
Turns out, transistors were not the right way.
Now everything is working!
