also, any reason i can't tie those grounds to VREF instead of across a large cap each? i know @antonis will say "DON'T DUMP GARBAGE INTO VREF" but this shouldn't be any different than tying lug 1 of the volume pot to VREF which i'm doing anyway, right?

That may be possible.
Use large VREF cap.

the VREF cap is 100uF, which worked to keep it clean when tied to lug 1 of the volume controls, so i imagine it would do the trick when tied to the voltage dividers here

Do whatever you like..!! :icon_wink:

There is enough room (yet) in the forum for threads which shouldn't exist if OPs simply listen to what other people said.. :icon_wink:
"I'm getting older while being taught all the time" Solon the Athenian..
"I don't mind  being taught all the time but I do mind a lot getting old" Antonis the Thessalonian..

since i do now have four places where VREF is used as signal ground (5 if i skip C6 and tie that to VREF too), would it make sense to set up a separate half-voltage signal ground that is entirely separate from VREF? just two resistors forming a voltage divider and a filter cap to ground? theoretically it should solve the problem of potentially polluting VREF, and require a lot less capacitors than using one or two for each ground from a half-voltage portion of the circuit.
