This thing kicks.  Built one this morning, in about an hour.
I stuck a 2n2222a in Q1 [will try to find my other tin can 2n2222], and 3904 for Q2, not bad.
Then an NTE103 for Q2 lit things up nicely...I dunno if Ge is 'supposed' to work, but it sounded pretty good and I checked the bias sitting nicely and 4.72+v.
What I noticed is different than most all my other FF types is a large incap and a small outcap [relativly] ... besides the extra emitter resistors...basically I'm agreeing with those who state this ckt works quite well.
cleanup at guitar volume happens early which for me makes it easy to get to.

Can you use 3904's for both Q1 and Q2??

I built mine on perf and really screwed it up.
I HATE PERF~!!!!

Uh ok, some of us like it very much.

I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

My Perf Fuzz Face turned out beautifully. Of course, I used a layout from RunoffGroove.   :D

The results I got from my experiences in FF endeavors for the most part says I do well with a low gain amp setup in Q1 ... Like 2n2222
 I'm using two transistors for Q1...I added a 5088 to the 2n2222
and I'm [right now I only been usin this for a day] using NTE103 for Q2.
I always socket these FF's Q's though ... it oughtta be law, cause I feel like I'm harpin'....

pete is hilarious~!
somehow the word "socket" makes it's way into every post...lol!
i always read his posts... i think he can type the same speed he thinks too...!
be well,

I do type fast, get incoherent [I guess] and can type the word socket faster than you can say 'which transistore?' [or at least as fast as I can dexcribe the different transistor's sound..
I tell you what Ive built countless FF's and the YAFF ckt made it to the pedalboard the same day, and so far is in heavy use mode and it really sounds terriffic !!!
It really surprized me how easy it was to put another transistor [5088] in the same socket as the 2n2222a in Q1's [here I go again] SOCKET !

Do you Socket Cap's?

I'm sure a lot of you guys do like perf but I don't because I'm not good enough to use it and I end up making a mess and ruining the parts because I end up cutting the leads off too short or break something trying to get it off of the perf board after I've soldered it on.
Maybe in a couple of years I won't hate perf due to my skills being better but for now I will stick to PCB's. I don't have any problems making them or populating them and I can troubleshoot them easier as well.

It's not the Perf boards fault it's mine. So maybe I should say I hate ME~!!!

So anyway I still can't get my YAFF to work. Does anyone know of you can buy the MPS2369 at radio shack??

I started with perf. I guess it's how you learn that matters

I socket critical ones that I think will affect the sound the most.

Once it's "finalized" I solder them in.

I made perhaps my first PCB for a fuzz some 30 years ago, that I later noticed it was almost direct copy of a fuzzface. Of course some resistors were not good values, and I picked BC109´s (high gain, not so good in FF in my opinion) instead cheaper BC108s (for sure they were vintage ones, 30 years then) because I thought 109s were better because they were "low noise". Well, it was misbiased and sounded muddy and mushy, but I have had few fuzzes even worse.

But that is not what I want to say. That PCB job teached me that such circuit is not very critical to layout, and you can make it work easily if the connections are right. If you make a pcb, it is much easier to avoid mistakes. If you make some ratsnest on perf without good plan...

I planned the connections between componnts from schem, added some spots for pots and jacks, and draw it on paper. I cutted suitable "tracks" from adhesive-backed clear plastic that was used to cover books. I removed the backing paper, put the pieces on copper side of board, and etched it. My soldering was just like "dont do like this" exaple pics of cold and bad solder joints, but it worked well. I even made another for my bandmate, the other guitarist.

 I just think I remember Jack at AMZ has added pcb and componet layout pattern for it

Yreah, I am going to make a PCB from Jacks layout tonight and make it easy on myself. I definitely do make a rats nest when I perf.
I just don't have the confidence to perf. However, I do realize that it is impossible to make permanent adjustments to a PCB unlike perf.

Oh well, I suck~!!

I have the opposite situation to you. I'm scared of making a PCB. If somebody else does the dirty work, I'm fine. My perfing skills are pretty good though. 90% or so of my perf projects work without debugging. If you can make a reliable PCB you do not suck.
