Any suggestions? I want to make a standalone head. I have a metal lunchbox that I thought would make a perfect chasis, but what about the rest of the head? Any premade sturdy wooden boxes that are about the right size that can be had for cheap?

maybe do what paul did and use another old amp?
I bet if you ask around at music stores for a dead amp - they'd give it to you pretty cheap!

Yeah, I suppose that I could cut it down to size like Paul did with his pedal case.

I've used Mike Brauer's aluminum chassis (aka "Komboking") for my last 5 amp builds. I was getting them done locally for awhile but I ended up preferring to deal with him instead. They are uncut though so you'll need a few punches or a unibit or something. I don't know what the firefly uses as a PT but I use a laydown style so I need a sabre saw with a metal cutting blade also.
$20 a pop... regardless of size. I normally build in an 18" x 8" x 2 1/2" size. I'm ready to put 10 more on order. Forget Hammond.

Strictly IMHO; if you're going to take the time to build it and it ends up sounding really good you're probably going to want to rehouse it anyway.

I learned that the hard way when I built a Spitfire in a cake pan.
I wasted hours on that ugly thing for what turned out to be one of the best amps I had built at that time. It deserved a better home.

Yeah Java,

Super nice guy. Professional and quick too. He'll do a chassis drawing for you and send it to you in a .pdf file. I've got his email and ph # too if you want it. I'm not sure it's on his site but check it out and let me know if you need them. You won't be dissappointed. You will have to do the cutting though but that's no big deal really... makes it even more "hand built".
