Being that EH is part of New Sensor I would suspect that they had Sovteks in them. If the tubes are running at low voltage, and I would guess they do, the tube brand won't matter much. Go for a cheap, basic, tough tube. Sovteks could qualify as that.

There are many online tube stores or you could just pick something up at the local music store.

Check on your other thread, I left you some 12ax7 info.

When people refer to 'matched' tubes, it's usually a pair or quartet in the output stage of an amp. We're talking 6L6's, EL34's and the like. In a stompbox, it really doesn't matter, at least not that I know of. I buy my tubes from NBS electronics, there's a guy who goes by the name of Lord Valve, or Fat Willie, and he's got good NOS (new old stock) and current production tubes. He tests them out before he sells them. His prices are as good as anyone and he can recommend a good tube for you. I've been wanting to try out a preamp tube he recommended for my super reverb, it's a Silver Special 7025, which is basically a high gain, low noise 12AX7. He said he's sold some to Derek Trucks for his super reverb.
Last I bought from him were some 7581's, which are military-spec 6L6-types with lots of headroom for my super reverb. I'd recommend buying from him.

no matched tubes required;
these pedals DO run on HIGH voltage;
any 12AX7 / ECC83 will work,
but lo-noise types are preferred;
check http://www.ehx.com/ehx2/Default.asp?q=f&f=%2FCatalog%2F29%5FTubes;

I wonder why you need to replace them: physically broken in transit?

In these pedals, they should work for years....

Hi jimbob,

I buy my tubes from http://www.dougstubes.com/.  Doug is a very nice fellow and he caries a good variety of tubes.

If these pedals are high voltage, I would proceed very carefully.  There might be caps that still contain high voltage.

puretube, I posted a thread about putting a tube infront of a ruby type amp (lm386).  Can you take a look and see what I could have done wrong?

Thanks,
Stephane.

Thanks all..

Puretube- I got the great deal on the pedals cause the tubes were broken in transit- in fact i had to yank the broken pieces out--So very worth it for me to do esp. since i got them for bout 20$ each-both broken but new-as i get all my effects that way and just fixem (unless i find a lifetime gureentee). I really like the ones u made as well!! I looked over your web site--very impressed!! Damn, tubes in a pedal!! So freakn kool!! And sounds great too!! Its funny cause if you look over a thread i made a while back, i had been looking for a schematic for these effects w/o realizing its better not to ask and just buy these effects--I never thought i could afford such, but man, I found a way after all!! As for the ones you did, I want those too!! But in time and as long as my finances allow!! hahah  And wife allows as well..

Thanks to all for getting back to be promptly as i sat excited and waiting to get my new toys working..

Slajeune- I checked Dougstubes web site...seems very reasonable! Thanks for the link.

I must agree, it is pretty strange for those tubes to break in transit! I can't imagine how it could happen, especially without them falling out of the socket. US Post has been clocked at 20G decelleration, but that shouldn't actually break a tube.. (just derange the insides, possibly).

Esp with the metal protection plate covering over them.

probably very suspicious people from an overseas country
have turned the box upside down and shaken the pedal too hard,
tryin`to find out if some little hardworking people
(probably with a different color than their own skin)
from an opposite side of a sea
are hidden in there, doing the sound....

Lurco

excuse me for this question: are you cynical or rather a racist?

Hal

is it just me, or has this post been up, in one form or another, at least 3 times recently...

moral: you can buy tubes anywhere.  Any 12ax7 will work.  Its a pedal, you're not driving it, so different tubes will probably have very little effect on sound.  Russian tubes are cheep.

check guitar center/sam ash and save on shipping, considering you're only buying 2 $8 tubes...
