The sixth and seventh entry are labeled Alembic boo PCB and Alembic fet booster.

Looking at it quickly and it looks like a Stratoblaster.

The funny thing is they didn't mention Startoblaster....maybe they didn't want to use the Fender name (didn't bother Alembic LOL!) but they sure used Alembics name.

I cannot help but find that all very very amusing indeed!

Ethics huh?

Oh yeah and the name flying pan is cleverly tucked in there as well......

QuoteAs a matter of fact this book contains 'full copies' of the MXR distortion+, dynacomp, Craig Anderton fuzz and bass fuzz schems (from EPFM).

Now that IS rich

Thanks Jun (and EA!) I appreciate it even if others do not!!

QuoteBut, aren't the efforts to obtain consent to a certain extent necessary?

Ask the author!

QuoteI think it kinda funny that the author didn't feel bad using the Alembic name for one of the projects.
                                    Isn't that a trademark infringment?

hey puretube (and others who had to suffer through the riduculous thread), sorry for misunderstanding and over-reacting. What can I say--language that can be taken as inflammatory can short circuit the brain...

That being said, I think that w/the particular scans, because of the factors previously mentioned (long out of print, n/a, doesn't seem to be considered for a re-print, shows how to copy MXR distortion+, dynacomp, Craig Anderton fuzz and bass fuzz, etc.) I think this is in the grey area not black and white. And to present the view that maybe the "ethics committee" is w/this presentation of copyrighted material all of the sudden having a callous disregard because the material is of Japanese origin, I don't quite get that sense. As kind of an aside, I think one factor for people buying the book back then may have been the extremely high prices compared to Japanese equivalent products for things like the Phase 90 and Dynacomp.  Providing the means for building stuff like that priced way beyond reach--I'm not sure I'd want to call that any sort of evil. If the import is triple or quadruple the price in the original country, then I suppose the intellectual property aspects would become less important to a musician wanting an effect, esp. something popular. And either making your own copy or buying essentially a manf.'ed copy--whether if it's efx. or gtrs. or whatever--then starts making more sense. Technologically, it's a whole lot easier now to copy published works and distribute them en masse, so for some things which people want but owners, publishers, etc. feel that there is no economic benefit in re-printing--I think it's just bound to happen that someone (or some people) will make copies, distribute them (and people accept them). Sometimes you see very old publications being re-issued again after many, many years (decades), but I would think a lot of people just wouldn't want to wait 20 or 30 years until the re-publishing is realized. Personally I would have bought the scanned book in question (and I think there is also another old Japanese one w/lots of projects which I would buy in a heartbeat if I found a used copy), but it's not available if I run out to the bookstore, is it? And with people making copies of things and passing them out for free, I think of part of any financial loss is a hypothetical one, right? That is to say, some people only took the item because it was free, and they would not have bought the item if they had to pay. Plus I don't think that the free spread of information is all "blacks"(negatives). It could mean more DIYers due to more efficient (although maybe un-ethical in cases or grey) transmission of information breeding more intellectual property and not less. Maybe.

anyway Peace,

Dai

Yeah, well you're all a bunch of asshats as far as I am concerned. That is a derogitory term that means everyone but me.  ;)

The only stereotype I have of Japanese people is that they are hardworking, intelligent, and have a long and rich history.

I think that Americans have the worst stereotypes, but at least we aren't arrogant, chain smoking, non-deoderant wearing, arm-pit hair braiding Europeans.   ;)  I may be fat, and I may sue you at the drop of a hat, I may be %^&*y, but at least you can't call me a European.  Thank God for that!

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Let's leave the copyright enforcement to the copyright holders.

In defence of my fellow Europeans, my arm-pit hair is not, and I repeat, NOT braided!...it's permed.

Glad you didn't mention the bad teeth...

Seifukusha aka Joey speaks japanese and korean, spends time in Japan and Korea, everyone on the HC forum would know it too; he doesn't mean any disrespect. puretube didn't either. But *some* people do when using that term.

QuoteThis is NOT nonsense.

I've had my engineering ripped off, I've had my artwork ripped off, and I've had my photography ripped off.

I really appreciate eaze's attempt to stand up for the rights of any authors.

Thank you eaze!

Because a couple of people are starting to get sadly infantile as they add themselves to this thread, I am now locking it. Sorry Eaze. Please accept my apologies. You have my respect.
