I just found an old May 1993 article clipped from ETI for a super simple one opamp fuzztone.

I built 2 of these way back when and they sounded very good, the unusual filter section is a nice sounding one. One got stolen after a gig and the other one was later canibalised for the case etc.

It's simplicity and good tone would make a great first pedal for newbie builders.

I'll leave it online for a while but it's probably better if someone else grabs it and hosts it. Enjoy!

this is different than the ETI "SustainFuzz".

The 10K filter pot has a "non-linearizing" resistor.
Don't U just love History Fuzz??

Hi.  I just made up a PCB and parts layout for the "FuzzTone".  

I added reverse-polarity protection, a power-supply noise filter, and upped the input impedance to 1M.  

I called it "the FLY" because I name some of my circuits after insects, and this one has that multi-legged IC and two pairs of diodes, kinda like the body and wings of a fly (well I can imagine it).

It's basically "like" any other "diode clipper in opamp feedback loop" distortion , but...

With only one stage and little in the way of components to shape the tone pror to clipping it's subtly different. If I remember rightly it sounded slightly more "open" and at medium gain settings quite touch sensitive, it reacted nicely to playing dynamics.

Part of this bright and open sound is the fact that R4 C3 give a gentle but deffinite bass roll off.

I'd say it was a great little rhythm distortion/overdrive.

Nice work. I might build another myself, and I'd add better power decoupling/protection and use a 3pdt switch for bypass, add a DC jack etc.
