Eric:

I couldn't think of a more appropriate link. I'm still laughing... :D  :D  That site -really- needs to be linked in the FAQ.

Aron:

Wasn't that kind of what the original Tube Screamer was all about? To make your Fender amp sound like a Marshall???

RDV:

Someday there's going to be a big market for people who want their Marshalls and Fenders to sound like a Peavey. They just don't know it yet... You are a visionary... :D

I just got the schematic for my PV Special 150 and I think I'm going to remove the THICK circuit and replace it with the SCOOP circuit Mark Hammer has been talking about.  Who's your daddy.   8)

I modded my little Marshall MkII, it is so much better behaved now...It used to bark at almost anything that moved!!!
One leetle cap change...now instead of a non-housetrained dog, barking over everything all the time, and pizzin me off left and right, I get to ride a well behaved race horse.
SO it just shows to go that if you want to know if your'e stuff works 'right', you just gotta Mod 'em.
what the heck was that ICE pick capacitor doing in there in ther first place I'll never know...whew...the PAIN is over!!! The barking dog has been put down ...Whew!...what a relief !!

I'd like to confess...  I was raised by a pack of rabid door-to-door encyclopedia salesmen.  I've had sales beaten into my subconscious since birth.  It's about the almighty dollar with me.  I've spent 38.352 cents worth of my time typing this reply.

I have a simple explanation for the question/answer posts you see here.  I suffer from multiple personality disorder.  Unfortunately for me, all the personalities are the same so it is quite boring for us...  er, me.

And you have no idea how many hours Brian and I (did I mention we are both the same person?) spent setting up all these accounts so we could post...   There's hardly any time to research, draw, breadboard or build and test anything.

Oops!  There's atleast 68.975 cents of time lost on this reply!  That's a 48.2% downtime loss!  Now I'll have to work Sunday!

Seriously, does the 'Chief sound exactly like a cranked Marshall Super Lead?  Hell no!  But it gets a lot closer for me than anything I've heard so far.  Well, except a cranked Marshal Super Lead...  Or atleast a good one.  There are bad sounding Marshalls, too.

Anyone ever plug straightinto a SLP, and get "That Marshall Sound"? [lol...no, that other Marshall sound...].
I owned two 100w Super Leads, not at the same time, they were different [I think I liked the Reissue better, could sound Super Lead Great, or super neastey BlwonCH. My sound suffered horribly when my Dist+ [ochre] got heisted off a stage. The amplifier sounded best on standby.
For sometime after having the first big tube amp...SLP [great choice but too big] I fought and fought with it trying to get 'it' to sound 'like the records'. Certain time I would come close to certain parts. Very educational...[I cursed it]...really teaches you alot about how to play through an amp ...!!! Best tudor's I've ever had have been amps and Fuzztwangerz {Bro Phil Used to say  ]...they teach you with the instantaneous feedback necessary [OC IMO] to learn about string attack.
Anyway, until sort of recently in my sound chasing endeavors, 100w Marshalls have been a Love/Hate relationship !!!
When you first get it...tell everybody about it...they come over to hear it...is it working right? does that sound like the record? that things auful LouDD !!! etc..
Enter decent speakers...start working the amp dynamics... thats fun.
Then you're out in a field, with intoxicating aromas, you're SLP somehow tuned itself perfectly to the vibe, with the Fuzz box on it, it is just FLoorrED, and truly sounds superb !!!
...Time passes...you play the amp PreTTy LouD whenever possible ....then you're at a first gig, the PA blows, you got this HUGe amp...out of control half the time...for years it goes on like this: Get the amp UP/it sounds Great!!! Turn the thing Wayy Down/Fight it all night again.
The things might just sing for someone, right off the bat, with 1 guitar.
Actually I saw dude with the G&L, a guitar cord, a Super Lead that was beat like rick...I dunno how he did it...the thing was LOUDER THAN HOLEY DRASTICALITY, but I've never seen anything like it really...Guys name is Joe, 'guitar' Joe of course...not into 'structures'..per se, cool patterns of harmonic shift, couples the killer drummer with unmistakable cues...worked great Big Rock Show !!! He kind barely knew nothing about say bar band knowledge type stuff...just blow the man down...what a whompin' screamer.
I've been having the 50w Marshall V-R MkII [Plexi Panel], Now that I'm on the inside it says 1987 on a piece of paper. To identify it I would type or say 1987 MkII and 'People' would know what I'm talking about?
 If it's a vintage amp, why the 1987 ?

Based on the dealing I've had with Brian and Gary and their circuits, I'm willing to bet my right one (that's the one that gets in the way now that my legs are fat anyway) that the TC smokes.

I finally got a breadboard, so I'm giong to make sure before I give it up.  I may use J202's just to be safe. 8)

Course it does...and if it doesn't, I expect YOU to figure out how to MAKE it! SmoKe!!
I doubt it'll take much if you use the right parts and wire it correctly or debug the Shout of it!!!
Because I Have a Modded TC right here, and can tell you, it IS the most powerful handgun in the world...and can blow your'e head clean off...so tell me...do ya feel lucky...well do ya???
It sounds almost exactly like a guitar I know

Jered

Hi WGTP,
How different do the J202's sound compared to J201's? More gain than your average J201?
 Thanks, Jered

WGTP

I haven't gotten to the TC yet, but in a Mu Amp the answer is yes.  I think they have more transconductance, whatever that is.  I like how that sounds. 8)
