I was reading about the glitch computer and thought it sounded cool and was wondering if anyone had the schematic. I would very much like to look it over. Thank you very much.

Rodgre

Are you referring to Nels Cline's mention of his using a Mid-Fi Glitch Computer?

The one made by Mid-fi electronics? I think the designer frequents this forum (not entirely sure),
so you might want to be VERY sure to get permission to put the schematic up!
Or how about checking some of the stuff at commonsound instead (like the Triwave Picogenerator)?

Let's not clone the life out of the small companies out there!  :icon_wink:

i think it's doug deeper, me thinks?
   it does sound very cool.

Marcos - Munky

Yeah, it's Doug Deeper. He is a really great guy. Ask him for the schematic.

flibbergibbin

Oh, ok I didn't know. I was just wanting to look at it just to learn not to necessarily to make a clone. Sorry.

If it's any help ...

(damn my memory is good at the mo!!)
It mentions using the 4013,741 (tl071,i guess, would do) and a 386.
You could try experimenting yourself...Maybe use the Blue Box as a point of reference ??

flibbergibbin

Thank you for the suggestion I'll give a look. I'm glad somebody has a good memory today because I sure don't.

Well, it's been discontinued. http://www.midfielectronics.com/
Let's see some gutshots.

ditto. if you label something discontinued and no longer sell it, its as free as Shakespeare in my mind

No clue. Hopefully a forum member here on on the other one can get their hands on one. I was posting on Craigslist in Toronto asking for owners of Glitch Computers to contact me. Nobody. Guess it didn't go over very well in Toronto.

From Doug himself "as for the glitch its a distortion stage into 2 divide by two stages into a mis-biased mixer stage that is split between the output and the collector of the first transistor of the distortion stage which is also sent to the mixer stage. so yeah its a feedback loop kind of affair in operation, although it doesnt oscillate when your not playing."

Been interested in this one lately, stumbled on this thread and thought I'd mention that I noticed on his instagram he posted a couple gut shots and a PCB shot, unfortunately it's double sided though. Someone will just have to experiment and guess?  :icon_wink:

I mean, look at the basics: gain > two octaves down > mixer, low parts count. Start with the LM386 datasheet or schems for other common 386 drives. Check out Parasit Studios' blog for this excellent CMOS basics post: https://www.parasitstudio.se/building-blog/cmos-workshop-part-3-octave-down. Then it's an opamp mixer. See what happens!
