I got a 2.1mm female plastic jack Mouser # 163-4302 I checked mousers site and it doesn't answer my question so here goes:

Ok the above is my drawing of looking at the back of the adapter head on the top prong is neg or ground same thing for middle left one.  I verified the bottom one is the positive.  My multimeter is telling me the other two are either ground or negative.  I guess that should mean it is indifferent which one I hook to ground and which one to (-), right?  Hoping some one out there has experience with this.

it's more like

|      -> switch
|      -> ring
o      -> tip

the switch is connected to the ring lug unless you jack something in. The tip is usually negative in effects, and the ring is positive so you can turn off the battery by plugging in a DC jack.
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

I'm not sure I follow that smog.  Essentially what I'm asking is I know one of the prongs I solder to my (+) supply and one to my (-) supply the third should be ground.  Are the (-) and ground the same thing i.e. interchangeable?

oh it's a 3-contact jack. uhm. I'd say use a lead and a DMM. It's fool-proof that way ;) And you can't blame me if it goes wrong :lol:

By the way, ground and negative voltage are two different things. Ground is 0v, while negative voltage would be -9v or -12v etc.
