Hey everybody

Can anyone recommend a link to a (prefereably guitar-related) IC substitution chart?

Thanks so much

uh oh

Peter Snowberg

That's a hard order to fill given the number of chips out there and the number of circuits.

Some chips can be substitued easily like dual opamps, but not all chips will work in all circuits..... even when it comes to dual opamps.

Do you have any specific chips in mind? If so, just post the numbers and I'm sure you'll get some options for substitution if they exist.

Often, you can sub one chip for another but you may have to re-work the circuit slightly or make some kind of an adapter.

Take care,

what are sub. for 2N 5088, 2N 5087 and 2N 5952?
thnx
it's working!

minor technicality; 2N5088, 5087, and 5952 aren't ICs!

Chances are that these subs will be even harder to come by than the original. The 5088 should be relatively easy to find, so should the BC549.

5088; BC169C, SE4021, BC109C, 2N5827, BC184, BC239, BC549

5087; BC179, 2N4250, BC259A, 2N6017, BC214, BC416, BC560, 2SA872A

5952; E304, 2N5485, BC264, BF410C, 2SK147, 2SK168

Also, if you search this forum for the part numbers, you'll find others who have successfully substituted other transistors.

i hate opening new topic so..
in MXR blue box IC1 is 4558
in shop near me there are several products with "4558" in name...so wich one do I need?

4558JRC
AN4558
LA4558
MC4558SIL9
MC4558C
NJM4558LD

please help I don't have a clue about this stuff...i just wanna play and make some noiz :-)
it's working!

any, although the NJM and JRC seem to be preferred. See whats cheapest.  The 4558 is a regular dual opamp, and can be swapped for almost any dual opamp out there - they tend to have comparable specs and identical output. Some have lower noise, some can stand more power, some have better slew rates, some clip differently, some have mythical status and turn bright green every hogswatchday.
Also possible, for example,  are TL072 (very common but very good chip), TA75558, 2043, 5532, etc.
See which chip is cheapest and get those, just make sure it IS a dual opamp (occasionally it happens that there are totally different chips with a rather familliar looking number - theyre just not what you want. End up with an old-style RAM instead of an opamp, or something...)

It also helps to google on "JRC4558 datasheet"
The MC4558 is a regular dual, but SIL9 is a not-so-handy package I reckon. We mostly use Dual-in-line (DIL), SIL is single-in-line I think. Never seen those as 4558.
