I'm unfamiliar with this way of writing out resistor values. Can anyone explain? Is that like 2.2k and 2.7m, respectively?

Exactly. 8)

You'll also see numbers like 470R which is the same as 470 ohms.

I've started doing all my schematics with the 2K2 or 2M7 style numbering system. It leaves a little less to question. :D

yeah I can't count how many times a gritty PDF or bad photocopy has left me squinting to decipher a "." or lack thereof. Makes sense.

That's exactly where that notation came from.
If it's not in the FAQ (which I doubt) it should be ;)
