!!HELP!! digitec metal master malfunctioning

i have had a metal master for like 2 years, and its a very integral part to my sound so quick answers would be highly appreciated. it was working on wednesday night at a practice, and then i was just about to jam in my room the other day, and i got all plugged in it wasnt making any sound at all except for crackles when i hit my input jack on my bed(normal i have to fix that) so i tested out all my cables, there all fine, then i took out the DC converter and put in a battery. now heres the funny part, when i put in the battery it crackled a hell of a lot, so i dont understand it. if its cracling shouldnt it let SOME sound through? ive never built a box and i just started looking at this site so i dont know.
