Ok, i've been working on this pedal for days now and I cant get it to work. This is my first true bypass pedal i've ever wired in my life and it doesn't work.

What i've got:
        1 enclosure box
        3PDT stomp switch
        4 stereo jacks
        LED light
        9v power jack

All i'm trying to do is make a looper box for non-true bypass pedals. How do I make this wiring happen? Someone please help!! Its driving me crazy!

take it one step at a time.

Never assume anything.


Do the essentials (the jacks and the switch) and worry about the extras (the LED and power supply) later.

Do you have a multimeter?

Do you have an audio probe?

If not, I strongly recommend that you should have both before continuing.

I owe you tons! Thank you so much. I dont know what i was thinking but that worked perfect on the first try. What i didnt wire up is he power and the led. That resister 1k thing, what is that?

That's a current limiting resistor, it's so you don't blow your LEDs with a 9v battery. Personally I've never managed to blow one, but I expect that's because I'm using almost dead batteries or something. Or maybe my LED can for some reason handle more...

Either way, wire a 1k resistor in parallel with your LED and it'll be fine.

Why wire it in parallel rather than in series?  Doesn't the image show it in series?

Just curious... I'm a newbie/lurker.

Bah, my bad... I should've looked over it before I submitted it. The 1k resistor is in series, sorry bout that.

Okay.  Thanks a bunch.  I'm going to be getting some projects started very soon.  I should be buying parts and a soldering iron this weekend and building next week.

I'm planning on wiring a true bypass box and the beginner project here while I'm at it.  

I'll be around.

OK, that says 1.5K. I guess you can go anywhere in between 1K to 1.5K and the brightness should change.

Im wanting to build that Tube Screamer thats on here, or should I start off with the begginers project?

I would try the beginner project if possible. The Tube screamer is a little more involved for a beginner.

You can actually use about any resistor from 470 ohm up to 10k or so...the lower the value, the brighter the LED, and it won't hurt anything. At the very most, if you use a resistor that is too small the led will simply flash and burn out. As far as using a calculator for LED brightness, I would just experiment with the resistor to get the LED at the brightness that you want.
