What would be a good project for a small practice amp for very late evenings ? (a combo)

I play all from metallica to Children of Bodom.. So i need a lot of distortion..

And a clean channel would have been great to have also..

Any good ideas? Or should i just buy a small crappy amp?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

If you want something cleaner and with more output than something like a ruby, you should go with a TDA20x0-based amp...   GGG has a project based on those chips:

My old Crate practice amp uses a TDA2030 and I actually kind of liked the old thing... it runs the chip 15+ to 15- rail to rail, but they had to use a pretty big heatsink on the chip.  The overdrive channel sucks, the DSP onboard effects stage is rather unfortunate (though it was fun when i didn't know any better), but the clean was always pretty good.

Build one of the GGG ss amps and a Sans Amp and you got the whole range of tones.
I have the TDA amp all built waiting for a transformer, actually I made the power supply,it's the connector I'm missing.
