if you're speaking of tube amps, then it's 400+vdc vs 9vdc . . .      the former can kill . . .

:icon_mrgreen: I should've clarified myself... I meant as far as tweaking circuits and such -- you can't really breadboard a 400 v circuit, correct? I'm really getting the itch...

Thanks,
Brian

Yes, for tube amps, most of the "tweaking" must be done on paper. Then build it and perhaps play around with different caps.

I find it pretty safe to work with tube circuitry, because I always double, triple and even pentacheck everything before powering up. And while flipping the switch, I usually take cover behind a sofa, in case any caps decide to go bye-bye.

If you don't care too much about reading the following link, you might aswell stick with your nine volts. :) http://www.drifteramps.com/safety.html

Otherwise, welcome to the tube family.  8)

taking the diy ethos to the excessive, let me present to you my DIY workbench. Its bad for the eyes and even worse for the back, but it can be set up anywhere your guitarcase is handy.

Heh, better than my workspace...

Mine is in my dorm, on the tiny desk under my lofted bed.

Been there done that. The worst was when I had to use the spare bath room in an apt ..but atleast it had a great vent system in there and it WAS asfterall close to the crapper.

a-men!

do you solder down there?

xpaladin1313

I do indeed.  Just finished soldering my first pedal, actually.  It kinda smelled in there for a few hours afterward...  ;D

edit: batteries on the cam died...I'll get them up at some point.

Hello all!

I'm pure new at making diy-effects and has only built two pedals yet. The enclosures are built by me and they works really fine...

The first...a "Venom" Nurse Quacky

The second, another Nurse Quacky named "Jimilizer".. (bad mobile-photo)

And, I can say that i'm hooked with this!!!

Great job, I have to say I really like those enclosures - I have wanted to figure out how to make something like that. Can you give us details on how you made your enclosures (what metal you used, how you cut/folded it...)?

I have no doubt they sound as good as they look.

Well... this is kind of embarrassing.  I think I'm the only one without a 3PDT ... o well, it's my first build and it wasn't even meant to be used, just a project for class.  The plastic enclosure is just to protect it really.. and I didn't feel like ordering a hammond or something.. well here it is  ;D

<edit> oh yes and the text is photoshopped.. its not really there
<edit 2> hmm I also seem to be the only one with strat knobs!! :)

I wanted to make a deco like "Hellcat vs Jap Zero over the Pacific":

I'm pretty happy with it!  :icon_biggrin:

robbiemcm

You should be, it looks brilliant. One thing I must ask however, is that okay to stomp on.. it just looks very high frm the photos you've showed. I guess it's one of those pick your foot up ones.

loylo

Thanks robbiemcm! There is no problem to switch on the pedal. The photo may distort the dimensions: the box is a little smaller than a Boss. So the switch on the top is not critically high.  :icon_wink:
And I'm pretty tall so it's OK for me!  :icon_biggrin:

Love the paint job loylo.  :icon_cool:
