Anyone know what fuzz (Ryhthm guitar) is being used on the Velvet Underground song I'm Waiting For My Man?

I just assumed that was probably an overdriven tube amp, seems like I've gotten more or less that sound from a small gibson skylark cranked up, I'd have to go back and listen to the recording though, it's been several years...

It sounds like amp to me too, but I think there are reports that they used a maestro fuzz tone.

Also, in the Jonathan Richman song, Velvet Underground, He sings:
"both guitars got the fuzz tone on,
drummers standing upright pounding along.
A howl, a tone, a feedback whine,
like biker boys meet the college kind"

I'd figure since he saw them live he might have some insight, but the next lyric is:

"how in the world were they making that sound?
Velvet Underground."

so maybe fuzz tone was just generic.  I really like that song!
Try a little tenderness.

Most likely an overdriven tube amp, or an overdriven desk, eg. beatles revolution.pl

I've listened to a fair bit of Velvet Underground in my day and what I hear a lot of in studio and live recordings is crappy overdriven late '60's SOLID STATE amps. Maybe some overdriven desk sound, too. It honestly sounds like crappy equipment being recorded with more crappy equipment to me.
