master volume boost?

Hey, I'm looking for a circuit to play around with that would have two boosters that operated independently of each other but would also be used together in a master volume configuration.  The only pedal I know of that does that is the ZVEX Super Duper II and I'm not looking for Zach's schematic nor would I like to rip him off, I'm just intrigued by the idea.  I've been to runoffgroove.com and there are some cool circuits that put the preamp sections of master volume amps in a pedal, could I just use those circuits and use two switches?  How exactly would that work?  Thanks.
