Regards Askwhos post sort of... I'd quite like to add a tone stack like that found on the 'Pocket Metal Muff' by Electro Harmonix to this... rather than having knobs, it's just a fixed tone stack with a 3-Way Mid Switch for Scooped, Flat & Hump.

What would be the best and simplest way to implement something like this? Just adding a Big Muff Tonestack with a trimmer instead of the knob and a cap switch or is there a better way to go about it, that could cost me some low end or treble due to its see-saw like action and a Baxandall is starting to add too many parts to get her all on a 1590B PCB with board mounted pots with room for battery nicely... I suppose just putting fixed resistors inplace of the Bass & Mids of the normal three way tone stack would work but then i'd need to add the 5th transistor back in.

Any ideas?

hi scruffie, on the original post by marty, he says about the 27n 15k etc...is this some sort of tone mod?..(as he says ROG sim style?)
i have a boogie on my desk now and have a croc clip from Q4 straight to the vol pot and it seems ok..
also would a pot from the caps he suggested to ground act as a tone?..just thinking aloud..!

He is talking cab sim.
Look at the end of the schematic, page 2 in the PDF
I'm no EE or even a tech, just a monkey with a soldering iron that can read, and follow instructions. ;D

hi bryan, yeah i see that...

so is it added as part of a cab sim?...or can this be left off....?

I think thats been added to round off the sharp high end.
Kind of a ballpark spkr simulator.
It would be simple enough to add it then bypass it on the breadboard to see which you like better.

i can't really get the picture of it.. mmmhh so trimmer BMP tone stack then no knobs? just trimmer? then a 3 way mid scoop spdt switch to choose which mid? am i correct? can make some simple schematics out of it?

its as it is on the schematic..., he just added the 27n, 15k's etc.....

leave them off if you like...or build it as is...

if you have the normal boogie...just use a toggle to turn off the stack from Q4 to the volume..

get ya croc clips out... :icon_mrgreen:

Here we go, I did a PCB Layout for this to fit a 1590B with Onboard Pots (Mounted on back of the board) With the Big Muff Tone Stack (Trimmer rather than Pot, Could wire a pot up though, or use a Trimmer Knob).

Values as Follows For it
TR5 - 1M
R15 - 4.7k
C19 - 6.8n
C20 - 6.8n

Change R16 Between
10k - Scooped
47k - Flat Mids
100k - Mids Hump

The Rest of the Values Follow the Schematic Earlier in the Thread.

Board Measures 53.34 x 53.34mm

If anyone wants to etch me one, I wouldn't say no  :icon_mrgreen:

nice one scruffie,

i'd have a tone pot i think....looks good ...obviously not verified going by your pcb request, :icon_wink: but as good as....

am gonna have to make a big muff tone control, just to hear what its like...

in fact i was going to build a whole bunch of different tsc tone controls in a big box , just to compare with different stuff.....a tone factory if you like...

but hey thats yet another mission to do..hmmmm..oneday...when i get my legs working again.... :icon_mrgreen:

Well I made it cause to me the Big Muff Tone Control is set and forget it's such a see saw motion it's only right in one place with your amp and the 3 way switch option lets you go for that scooped, flat or mid sound depending on bedroom or actual gig.

You can buy knobs that stick in trimmers if you want that option, I can also rework the layout if you want

Nah it's not verified, I can't etch at all, but I make layouts for stuff I want specifically (I love onboard pots and no stand up resistors plus 1590Bs) and also it helps me practice for the big layouts like my EHX Attack Decay PCB i'm doing next hehehe  :icon_mrgreen:

Regards Tone Stacks, My Favourite is the Baxandall, You can get any combination needed with that in my opinion, I only went with the big muff here for space and to get the mids control.

deadastronaut

yeah gotcha, i like the idea of the 3way toggle....that'd be good...

Nice layout scruffie! did you verified it? hhehe its so small i really like your layout and i like small layouts for space an saves money a lot, for knobs and enclosure and also for drilling time...

Why thank you  ;)

Nah it's not verified, if someone etches me one i'll verify it but I don't have the etching equipment myself.

scruffie...im getting a dremel drill press for xmas...i think...i sort of know i am....i peeked at the label n the box ha ha......your a london dude arent you?.....
i'll etch and drill a couple up n send ya one if you like....as long as you verify it.. :icon_mrgreen:.  probably be just after xmas though ok.. :icon_mrgreen:
