Femtoverb /Wavefrontsemi/: replacement encoder?

Hi,

I would like to build the Femtoverb but I noticed that Allied don't have in stock the encoder from the schematic . I did some search for 16 pos. gray code encoder at Digikey.com - they carry several types. Can somebody advise which of them would be suitable for Femtoverb?

Any switch that puts out a 4 bit Grey code will work fine. You can also use any 4 bit hexadecimal coded switch; the only difference will be the order of the algorithms selected. Sorry I don't have time to research. If you post a link to a switch you're thinking of I can tell you if it'll work.

Also can you change effects parameters in that chip and how or everything is preset ?

Why wouldn't a quartet of toggle switches work? All it involves is 4 bits to set appropriately, right?

This would be a great chip for Small Bear to sell!!!!!!!!!!

I'd want an encoder. It'd be SOOOOO much easier to know what I was telling the chip to do than 4 toggle switches. IMHO.

Perfect match.

(that may be the same one used in the Alesis Picoverb)

You can only change which algorithm you're running. No internal effects parameters are available. The Mix control between the wet and dry outs is as much as you get. Some of the algorithms are less useful without LFO control, but the verbs sounds good.

Toggles? Sure. 4 toggles will work just fine.

My first modem was just that. Before that I had make beeping noises into the phone.
