high pass, low pass, and band pass filters

Are these the same as tone controls? Again sorry if dumb question but I'm trying to learn. I don't mean to post a bunch just need some things cleared up. My brother just told me about this place a week or so ago when I moved in and I'm already starting to really like it.

If these aren't "tone controls" then are the filters just "stages" in a circuit that act like "tone" controls?

Yes, they are definitely tone controls. The tone knob on an electric guitar (a passive one, anyway) is a simple lowpass filter.

You might want to read up on some basics, probably answer lots of questions you don't even know you have yet.
