Can I say  " Huge Hampton "  !!
( %^&*ney rhyming slang, translation.... "Hampton Wick = Dick"  !! )   :icon_redface:

OK, back to business, I just tried making a 9v version of this stage, which looked
interesting.
I used a 50k trim pot for the Jfet, to get 4.5 volts at drain and used a J201
Q2 is an MPSA13 and Q3 a 2N5088.
All else is "as the schem" other than the 10uf output cap ( poly ? ) for which i used a 1uf
poly cap 100v.
On it's own, a very high quality, full range  clean boost, with a pleasing tone.
Connect two together ( as suggested ) and a decent overdrive is available, keeping the
second vol pot low and driving from the first stage quite hard.
Replacing the second stage with a "Fetzer valve" stage also sounds great and I preferred it.

Nice interesting and quite simple gain stages, worth checking out  HUGE !!
