Solder removal Products - Solder suckers
« on: July 25, 2006, 04:08:25 AM »
I just thought I would lay down another product on the board that I have yet to hear about.

I used to use those desoldering wires/braids and the one I had just never worked so I went to allelectronics.com and picked up item SSR-1
A "Weller like" solder sucker.  They work heaps better in removing solder compared to those braids that would heat up the components more.

http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/item/SSR-1/search/SOLDER_SUCKER_.html

I have tried 2 solder suckers that AE makes and put them in the review, I personally like this Weller type one better....More suction, easier to retrigger, better gaskets and springs inside...Just better quality.

Anyways that's all I have to say here really.

Thanks for your time.

I've tried a bulb and I've tried braid, but I keep coming back to the little blue solder pump from Radio Shack.

I didnt notice the shack had an expensive little pump...I looked it up and its like the first one i tried at AE, its got plastic on one side so you cant just reload it on a table top or anything like that...you have to use your hand

one thing to keep in mind when using these pumps is to press the plunger in ALL THE WAY when reloading to get the solder out of that white tip.  just a few days ago I was using the blue one and had a big amount of solder clog it up and i didn't notice...i kept trying it and it would click then work but the suction wasn't there...I found that the solder was all stuck in the tip and it didn't come out until i really pushed that plunger in all the way.

do they make these with electric pumps?

I have an old finsh tank pump that i have been meaning to convert into a solder sucker pump system...actually the outputs blow air so im using it for this

but im sure some looking in there will find the intake so i can add a pipe to it...

mechanical ones with spring outside the chamber are better. the solder won't jam it.
