I am tweaking up the Uglyface with the blend mod, Dan N was kind enough to hook me up with the board for it... but it only works with the switch in one position and from the sound of it it is the "blend On" position..AND it seems my freq section doesn't go down NEARLY as low as it should, my last Uglyface would get down to near a low D this one not evern close.... these lower frequencies are needed for the octave down sounds as well as a solid laser sound... any ideas? here is the layout I am working from...it also seems to have tamed the whole thing down a bit...I'll check my battery, etc... but any other help would be greatly appreciated...Its a great circuit and when I get the inside done it should be a complete package I can be proud of :)

Hi Nate,

I guess you are kind of a guinea pig for this one as I have yet to try it.

The mod is from this thread:
http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=29098.0

I now see that when in the "off" position, the blend pot still needs to be turned all the way up (down? whatever) so that lug 1 of the freq pot has no resistance to pin 7 of the timer. Maybe there should have been a DPDT switch to just disconnect the blend pot totally.

In the "mod" position, well, I'm not sure what normal would be or sound like.

Maybe someone who has done this mod will chime in.

Worst case, use the jumper on the new pcb and you still should have an average ordinary uglyface. That aint so bad...

i could put a dpdt toggle in there... but what would I need to be accomplishing with it?

The second side of the switch would make it so when the mod is switched off, the blend pot is disabled and the Uglyface should work as normal.

I added what I mean to strungout's drawing:

ok... i think I may be able to figure out that part..... basicly jumper it on jumper it off, and take the blend in and out... dpdt toggle should be able to do that... but what can I do about the frequency range problem, the last one I built went MUCH lower than this one... I'd like to get that back.... what controls how low the oscillator will go?  What can I change to get it down near low D..... like I said earlier it makes a huge difference in the octaves and laser sounds... thanks! :)

I came up with a similar mix mod that seemed to work pretty well. Here is a link to the notes that that I made on it.

Strungout accidently put a 10K between pins 7 and 8 of the timer. The original 100K is correct. If you did use 100K, try something bigger.

Thanks soggybag! Another one to try...
