Is the sustain parameter the same as the release time on a compressor?

In a sustainer pedal is the sustain parameter have a feedback loop generator in the release time stage or something to keep
the note longer for legato melody riffs?

How does it keep the notes from decay and keep it going longer?

  It probably doesn't...of course we don't know what 'it' is..
  Compressor can attenuate louder notes, making the softer ones seem louder in comparison. Heavy 'squish' compression can actually 'turn the volume control up' when lower amplitude notes fade, making them 'seem' to last longer as loud or stay 'stronger longer'.
  Once the string dies down below a certain amount, the string vibration has died down a certain amount, an even more powerful compressor can make this amount seem larger compared to louder parts. At some point there is too little to make loud, and very powerful compressors...can make 'it' sound too compressed when pressed to lift volume of very low amplitude notes to 'loud'...

if you're talking about something like the Boss Df-2, you've actually got a phase Locked Loop that "copies" the signal at the input and holds the tone put into it.  This is probably not what you're referring to, but I'm really interested in that pedal, so that's the first thing I thought of when I read the first post.

I think it might be this phase locked loop regenerating the release time like a feedback loop is the release time is set to 40ms and u feeback back that or phase locked loop the release time circuit it can hold the note longer im guessing because some pro audio compresosor have a "hold parameter" also which might be a phase locked loop circuit
