I breadboarded a big muff pi over the weekend and played round with capacitors for bass response. I had some OA91's (i think, definitely germanium) popped them in instead of the 1N914's and wow it was a cool sounding distortion. A lot more cruisy less zzz. Very cool.

i'm tempeted to make it only one gain stage and then have a rotary switch to change between, germaniums, 1N4004's, 1N914's etc. (maybe even pairs of them or asymmetrical diodes) as they all make a worthy difference.

Anyone else use interesting diodes? on both dist stages?

Has anyone put in say 4,5,or 6 gain stages? is it worth it?

Well, I've put two Big Muffs in series, if that means anything to you. It screamed and fed back and made all sorts of loud noises. Heh heh, It was cool.
