Nice Muamp distortion, quite high gain but backs off to lower gain well, doesn't get
totally clean unless you roll back gtr vol pot.
For less gain/more clean, re-bias with all 10M's @ 1M and 330 Ohm's as 1k2's

Enjoy,

Marty.

Looks cool. How would you describe the sound compared to the usual suspects out there?
You meant to mis-spell lightning right?

DOH !!!!

Change it asap , googled and both are correct but one's to do with " hair colour "
- that's the english spelling of colour BTW  :icon_wink:

This is cool, I've set it up to have a thicker tone, like a big amp/speaker I guess.
It's 70% a Booster2.5 , just has some more gain and tone changes.
Sounds a bit like a "thick" sounding Dist + through a 4x12  !

Here it is again ...........

SHIT !!
I hate that the modify button goes after an hour !!  ????
Now it's a dead link above :icon_eek:

Glad I asked about the name...(sorry)
Not that it matters but Matchless amps have an amp called the "lightning" just so you know...

Unless it's changed I thought the modify function was gone after a half hour.

Sound sample ..... quick one !

Notice the "tube like" breakup and the octave down that seems to come on here and there :D

I hate you!!! I didn't got time to build the Tornado yet, and you come with another schematic. Man, give us mire time  :icon_razz: :icon_mrgreen:. Also, the soundclip is great, liked a lot the octave down that seems to appear sometimes.

Dragonfly

Nice !!

(HINT FOR FUTURE PEDAL: Try a Cream Pie driving a mu amp)   ;)

thanks for the schematic and the clip. Appreciate you sharing it! Gives me insight in building and designing things like this. (today I've been reading and digging the archives of this board...my goodness...what a wealth of information is hidden there!).

Anywayz, back OT, it sounds more like a fuzz than a distortion to me ;) "Phat" sound though!

Marty, you should make a series.  Maybe call it the Storm series.  Here it is:

Storm Series (Still have to design one of these)
*Tornado- Distortion
*Lightning- Tube-Breakup Gain
*Hurricane- High Gain Fuzz (Make your FET Fuzz this one)
*Rain- Light overdrive

Kerry  ;)

That's what I'm aiming for Kerry :D
Also notice the names correspond to some of my favourite "Fighter Planes" !!

Yes, well that was at max gain with a loud HB equipped gtr kicking in !!
There are much cleaner to medium gain tones, gets somewhere between
a Rat and a Big Muff at max  !

hey marty,

way to go!   :icon_cool:  are you familiar with R.G.'s article Mod your Mu-amp/Minibooster?  maybe you want to try the quiet biasing method described there?  or maybe you already did?

Thanks Gauss, I had not seen that before with the 10k pair and 4.7M to the upper gate :D
While I dont have a noise problem, that setup could net some more gain :D
Cheers also RG for the article !

how about something like this for layout?  i put in the extra resistors and caps for the alternative biasing method.  the resistors can be jumpers and the capacitors removed for Marty's original schem.

MartyMart

Thanks Gauss, good lookin PCB :D
I really dont have any noise, so I'm leaving it as -is for this one, but I will try
the noiseless bias setup next time for sure :D
