9V issue

well, no. It everything is correct then in bypass your meter should 'beep' if you touch the input jack and the output jack.
I started out with nothing... I still have most of it.

  I don't know exactly how many problems you had.
  That's moot now because you've nailed enough of them to get it working !
  Congrats on achieving results by applying great patience and perseverance !
  Having a whonker of a debug on the first one's cool because it is a more thorough introduction into debugging.
  It's got to be something with signal path blocking, perhaps PS and bias related...stray ground or something else, it's not funny 'till you find it.

the problem was i had the output side of the switch wired backwards.
