Hi, I'm half way through building the zakk wylde pedal and I was wondering if you could substitute the 1N914 doides with 1N34A's.Any help would be appreciated

Diodes that is not doides

You can, but because of the difference between Si and Ge diodes it'll sound very different.  Another thing you can try is LEDs.

I think a closer match for the 1N914 is a 1N4148, also Si, as a matter of fact, I think they are pretty much interchangeable. I have used them in my builds instead of the 1N914 because in my country those are unavailable. Maybe someone more expert than me can offer more info.
