I decided to use the shielded wire method that John at audioprobe has suggested. Actually I had the wire in the box, but I had the shield connected to ground on both ends. I removed the shield on one end and now I have a LOUD pop when I turn the pedal on. So I used the method that RG suggests where you use a 390 ohm resistor with a 1uF cap.... Still pops. So I used a 390 ohm resistor with a 47uF cap ...... and it still pops. The background hiss of the pedal seems to be quieter, but the pop is annoying. This is the only pedal that I have that pops. I don't understand why it pops now when it didn't before.
