just out, built around a 12AX7 in a "starved" mode for distortion with a 12v power supply goosed up to 30v "produced by an LMC555 CMOS timer chip set to generate square waves and fed to a voltage tripler circuit": http://www.solorb.com/elect/musiccirc/firebottle/

I was thinking both thoughts myself.

I'm thinking it would sound really buzzy with those 555s in there.

forrest says he borrowed the idea from PAiA and modified it to use a modern CMOS 555 timer
and schottky diodes.  i think it's worth trying.  :icon_biggrin:
