Hi Aron,
Just picked up a Iron.
Weller with the orange handle SP23LK
The tip isn't as tapered.
Looks like the standard radio shack model.
will this be ok for a beginner?

I bought a pencil tip for about $5. It's worth it.

I think the fine pencil tips are really the way to go

They are the next thing after good technique for preventing solder bridges.

And whether you use the tip you have or the fine tip, also a big thing to make sure of is to clean the tip after every joint, because if you dont and you leave a blob of solder in there, you're bound for bridges and cold joints
