When I saw that, I immediately thought of this comic character from my childhood. It was like the pedal and this character were one and the same in my head. Weird. I haven't thought about this guy in years.

WOW! He`s a bit swish. Never heard of him before.

Returning from a prayer meeting, the bus he`s riding in is involved in a crash throwing him into a puddle of toxic chemicals which transform him into a reckless, nihilistic dandy. What are the chances of that happening?

His only aim in life is to show people the sheer meaningless of existence which he attempts to accomplish armed with his bubble gun and the power to induce feelings of Euphoria in his victim. Ya gotta love this guy.

+1 on the pedal which inspired the post.

i wouldnt say nihilistic
he just straight believes in nothing
and nihilism isnt belief in nothing, simply because it is not a belief system

I was looking for something at the dollar store and came across some paint so my 9 year old and I decided to give it a shot tonight.  I like his effort better than mine but I think we both over swirled.  Anyway, it was pretty fun, here it does.

Existential Nihilism is a Philosophical concept that can be summarised by....

..... the notion that the world lacks meaning or purpose. All existence itself -- actions, suffering, feelings -- is senseless, nothingness.

Also quoting from another article "A true nihilist would believe in nothing......................"

Sounds a bit like your description of our brightly garbed pal, wouldn`t you say?

"A common, but misleading, description of nihilism is the 'belief in nothing'. Instead, a far more useful one would substitute 'faith' for 'belief' where faith is defined as the "firm belief in something for which there is no proof." A universal definition of nihilism could then well be the rejection of that which requires faith for salvation or actualization and would span to include anything from theology to secular ideology. Within nihilism faith and similar values are discarded because they've no absolute, objective substance, they are invalid serving only as yet another exploitable lie never producing any strategically beneficial outcome."

"Nihilism is primarily skepticism coupled with reduction but in practical reality it takes on more than one facet which often leads to a confusion of definitions."

I don`t believe any of this detracts from my description of Madcap as being Nihilistic. I could have been Pedantic by stating he exhibits Nihilistic traits but the rest is just a matter of semantics.

From the description of Madcap on the Comicvine site, "Madcap is a disturbed character, who is trying to make everyone see that the universe does not make sense."

A quote taken from counterorder.com, heading the Nihilism Defined page where you got your quotes.

Haha I just thought his purply clothes looked like a pedal.

Swirl tutorial --> swirl exhibition --> debate on the definition of nihilism...wha?!

Reading through all this jibber-jabber about nihilism, I was wondering when someone was going to bring up my favorite movie.

"Nihilists! @#$% me. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos."

i dont wanna get into a big discussion on what nihilism is

That's really great that you're spending time with your kid while doing your hobby.

8mileshigh

Thanks for the compliments ! My son and I had a blast trying this.  I showed him the tutorial first, then we tried it and got a real kick out of it.  He has wanted to make a complete pedal for some time now but I fear we'll burn himself with the soldering iron.  Anyway, the next enclosure will be 100% his choice of colors, he's going solo.
