the project i am working on calls for a 250k pot, of course i have every other one in existance but the one i need.  how much wiggle room do i have?

Paul Perry (Frostwave)

That would depend entirely on what the circuit is.
But I personally would use a 200K and see how it went.

I always say bigger is better, so if you have something over what you're looking for you should be good.  If not you could get there w/ a resistor + pot, though instead of going from 0-200 w/ just the pot, it would go from 50-250 w/ a series resistor.

if i were to use a resistor which post would i conect it to

thanks

If you're working w/ perfboard I would just add it to the board where the pot is supposed to hook up to and hook the pot up to the unused end.

which lug are you refering to? on the pot that i am using all the lugs go to the board

Again, tell us what circuit you're working on. It's impossible to say what the best solution is unless we can see the context the pot is being used in.
