which taper should I use for the "drive" pot?

  I lost track if that's a FF, if it's a FF gain pot, Smallbear has the corrected' taper for that purpose.

I'd go with a linear taper.
Maybe a reverse taper.

I think the RM Axis fuzz had an odd size (2k?) reverse log pot.  But reverse linear will work ok, too. 
If you don't mind a little messing about, you can make a 2k reverse pot, using the info and math about pots at geofex.com (it's just a metter of adding an extra resistorin parallel).
