New Big Muff Perf Layout - very tiny and neat, minimal off-board wiring.

I just completed building from this layout, so it's tested and verified, though I still need to box it up. I wanted to have all the pots on the board, as I hate loads of off-board wiring. This also means that the board is secured in place by the pots. It's pretty tight, and might test your soldering skills. I've built the Violet Ram's Head version, but it will work for all the transistor versions with a little thought. The layout was designed to fit sideways (Zvex style) in a 110x60x30 enclosure, without a battery - I don't use them. I added an extra pot 'Clip' which reduces the effect of the diodes in the first clipping stage, an example of diode warping, giving interesting variations. I originally had Si diodes in that stage, but I liked the effect better with Ge. And not a submini tube in sight! Enjoy!

I'm with you, I put pots on the board whenever I can, even with vero layouts.

Sorry to say, but the lack of glass bottles disappoints me... :D

Damn. Last organ I took apart was a 70s hammond and all it had were a ton of super low gain and power silicons. Loads of caps and stuff but nothing great or worthy of desoldering or clipping out.

In the early hours of Saturday 18th April 2009 the premises of frequencycentral aka Rick Holt aka Doctor Analogue was raided by Mojo Police accompanied by sniffer dogs. The Mojo Police found quantities of illegal metal film resistors and ceramic capacitors. Holt (age 964) claimed that they were for presonal use and that he had no intent to supply. He asked for several counts of uber-cool submini tube effects pedals and amplifiers to be taken into account. Sniffer dogs also found a circuit board containing a quantity of solid state semiconductors, the defendant pleaded that this was a momentary lapse which he knew was wrong but it felt good at the time, and that he intended to return to his vacuum filled glass envelope as soon as the supply of solid state semiconductors was exhausted. The case goes before the Mojo Magistrates on 17th May 2009, bail was set at £3.1415926, and Holt was told not to leave town.

Other than that I just subbed a few resistors, I have a quantity of 43K and 430K that I never seem to use, so being within 10% of the 39K and 470K in the BMVRH schematic I used them. While breadboarding this before building it I found that the 470K could be any value between 100K and 1M without much perceivable difference.
