Clipping diode

I ran across an Ultraviolet Blue LED and decided it was cheap so I bought it. The package estimated the forward voltage drop at 1.7 so I figured if it works like a normal LED then it will do.

I checked it when I got home and I was surpised to find that it has a forward voltage drop of 1.2V.

LOL someone may get me on this but ... hopefully this will still allow for the open and more tube like sound that LEDs usually offer but it will clip at a lower drop like to two 1n4001s in series. Well I am excited to try it and let you know what happens. All my mods are in Boss pedals if that helps.

Does anybody know what LEDs do not work for clipping. I am sure that photocell and blinking LEDs would not work. Are there others???

Thanks and please feel free to make corrections or at to this post!!

Well, photo cells are not diodes, they are resistors.

Why don't you just try it and see?

Thanks for the info on the photocell there!

I will try it and see. I mostly asked because I got the 1.2V value but it did not light up like the other LEDs when I tested it???

Anyways it may just be something common with the light it emits.
