I figured, since the normal pictures thread is in the stompbox forum, we needed a place to put pics of all of our.. off-topic electronics projects.

Amplifiers, guitars, test equipment, weird gadgetry... you name it.

All the posts in the "Pictures!" thread that add "I know this is off topic, but here's my..." kind of started to irk me  :icon_rolleyes:

Given the way the pictures thread is going wouldn't it be a good idea to have a permanent gallery thread / area ? Somewhere on the forum? It is inevitable that the picture threads will last as long as the forum. I know I have picked up some good ideas from the pictures thread.
Just a thought.
Class A booster , Dod 250 , Jfet booster, Optical Tremolo, Little Gem 2,  mosfet boost, Super fuzz , ESP stand alone spring reverb red Llama omni-drive , splitter blender ,

NEVER use gorilla glue for guitar repairs! It's Titebond , Elmers, or Superglue

A lot of this stuff is already in the layouts gallery. No reason you can't use that, that I can tell.
"I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you."

I like the idea ... I've spent a long time building a frequency counter so I could make accurate low frequency measurements and I've been reluctant to post it in the regular 'picture' thread though the occasional 'other' thing shows up ...

I think some people like the way that the Pictures thread provides a higher chance of someone responding with "Wow, that's awesome!". The gallery is more of a repository than a showing-off area. ;D

okay.  giving this a go. Should it be here, or in the main forum?

here is DIY frequency counter ... a long time in the making. Sits on top of my DIY frequency generator(needs modding), which is displaying the lowest freq. it can generate ...

incorporated a x100 multiplier to get 2 decimal point resolution, a 0.1s time base to get quicker display refreshes, leading 0 blanking display.
Could not figure out how to multiplex the display and make it as bright as separate driver per digit as well as providing the leading 0 blanking so ended up with a board just to drive the display.

I hope we can get this started, thanks for the first submission!

I have a feeling that once people start posting on this topic, it will become a "second stop" for all those visitors who click away to the Pictures! forum as soon as they log on, and it'll start growing the same way.

Impressive work, to say the least!

Especially the massive (resistor networks?) discrete display driver  :icon_eek:

thanks.

8 digits for the counter, so one driver chip and one resistor 'chip' per digit ...

yup, it adds up fast.

KORGULL

In stark contrast to the complexity and expert workmanship of the project presented above, stands my rustic little metronome project.
It's built inside a cedar souvenir box I picked up at a thrift shop. The cedar wood projects a clean, pleasant, woodsy aroma while I practice - and keeps those pesky moths away too.
The circuit is from Craig Anderton's Electronic Projects For Musicians book.

KORGULL, nice build. I like  the hinged lid top. The Anderton metronome was one of my first builds too, made it for a drummer friend of mine, instead of a speaker put a headphone jack and a volume control. I think he might still have it! I'll have to check with him.

Thanks scratch.
Yeah, for a drummer, I imagine a headphone jack + vol. control would be a must. When I was building it, I thought about adding an output jack so I could run it through an amp/PA, but decided to keep it simple and just use it when practicing with an acoustic guitar or low volume on the electric.

exactly how does one post pictures so that they show up 'inline' in the posting rather than a url ??? I've tried various combinations of  the 'insert image' button, etc. either nothing shows up at all, or only the url, even tried taking the .htm off the end of the url, no difference.

If you have .htm at the end of the URL, it's not an image. See if you can find a direct link to the image file. For the one you posted, the URL would be http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=40435&g2_serialNumber=2. In Firefox, you can right click on the image and choose 'copy image location'. Note that this case is a bit atypical, as the image URL doesn't end in .jpg/.png/etc. - still works though. Just put that in an [img] tag, (You can use the 'insert image' button to add one), and it should work.

DUY1337GUITAR

Here's a quick gallery of my guitar build.  On my 16th birthday, I collected all my gift money from the holidays and planned a guitar build and ending up making my dream guitar

The mahogany Jem body with half the face with flamed maple veneer

Staining a strong green with a hint of blue

Stained a blueburst around the guitar (love it)

Preparing to spray a blackburst with this technique after finishing sanding sealer

Blackburst applied, the blueburst is still present but hard to see in this pic

Clear coat applied and sanded down and polished

Check out my guitar build at http://www.youtube.com/user/DUY1337GUITAR

I might not always be right, but I'm never wrong....

scratch

Josh, thanks for that ... I'll give it a try, that is likely my problem as I was taking the url from the top of the page.

DUY1337 ... Wow! very nice work. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

audio 'gadgets' ... passive 1 in 2 outs, I called them Y-BOXes ... in the mono version I used 14ga. wire on the off chance it got used to connect two speakers to one output.

These are two little no-chip sinewave phototheremins I have built.  I call them Space Saucers!

They are really small, only 3x3 inches square.  The plastic bubble on top is from one of those coin-operated gumball/prize machines at the grocery store!
