is widely known through Homer Dudley`s US#2151091 patent
for his bandwidth-reducing *phone-scrambler & secrecy transmission* circuit...

but who`d`ve thought that he also came up with a musical applicatication in 1939 named:
"System for the artificial production of vocal or other sounds" (US#2243089)
(which represents what we still call a vocoder nowadays);

only 3 years after Robert R. Riesz had applied a "Wave Translation" - circuit (US#2183248)
which called for the following futuristic features:
"Chanting"
"Whisper"
"Ventriloquistic"
"Nasal"
"Southern Drawl"
"Squeak - drunken man`s hiccup"
"Adolescent voice break in"
"Talker chewing gum"
"Crying child"
"Swedish or reversed inflection"
"Tremulousness or old man"...

...which in turn was based on Dudley`s earlier patent.

This could be the subject in one of those hilarious "Hitler responds to" videos!
