If you would spend one afternoon by improving way you record audio of your otherwise really really really great demos, it would be just perfect..

EDIT: might be worthy to start thread about it if you are not sure how to do that.

I appreciate the sentiment and I know you're just being helpful, but the ONLY thing I have that makes a digital recording of any kind is my handheld camera. So it's not like I can spend an afternoon "working" on the audio in the recording, and there's no opportunity for mic placement or other niceties. It's part of the video. It would probably cost close to a thousand dollars for home recording and video equipment to make a marginally better video that's just going to get compressed into oblivion by YouTube regardless. Of a couple different cameras I had access to (including some nice digital camcorders), this one had the best overall sound.

This is why I talk so much in the demos ... they're to give a rough idea of the sound of the pedal, and I try to describe what I think won't come through. I'm not trying to sell anything, and I hope people realize that I try to be honest about what I demo.

@deadastronaught: I've built 20+ (15 in boxes) and have 13 of them. (Two were for a friend.) I've actually build ALMOST as many tremolos (and 12 are in boxes). And yes, I fully admit I have a problem. :P

You obviously have computer of some kind, it is device capable to do digital audio recording. The biggest problem of your recording is ALC (Automatic Level Control; acting as heavy compressor, sort-of) applied by camera to the audio, resulting by continual level and color changes. Even if you would let cheap voip headset laid down on the floor, put it into PC's mic input and record audio by this, recording would be probably more accurate. This is extreme example of course aiming for zero cost. If you would like to go more "pro" and e.g. record your voice by one mic and combo by second, devices like simple mic pre-amps and audio mixers are cheap, quick, simple and nice DIY projects on the same level like e.g. MXR MicroAmp stompbox. 10-20$ dynamic microphones could do the job. There is lot of free audio recording software and you probably have some video software capable to mix external audio to your video for free bundled with your camera (and there are probably free solutions as well) and IMO it would take one afternoon to master it.

Not going to push you anymore, if you would like to get more into it, start the thread, I believe lot of people would have valuable hints and it could be interesting.

YouTube audio can be very clean, I would not see problem there.

Where'd you get that skate footage? I think that's Steve Cabalero and Tony Alva. That reminds me of my trip to the Louisville skatepark where they have a huge pipe that we would have sticker slap contests in. Good times :)

Just in case people haven't seen it, "Dogtown and Z-Boys" , fantastic skateboarding doc, amazing archival footage, and how could a movie that opens with Hendrix's Easy Rider not be great? Rest of the soundtrack not too shabby either.

^ yes.
I liked Dogtown as well as DT and Z boys, of course Z boys is the real deal.
Skateboard Kings has a bunch of Dogtown footage as well, just a few years after
the z boys film documentary. Skating pools and some Venice beach footage etc etc.

Yea, the documentary had a really good soundtrack   'Old man' and 'I Wanna be Your Dog' are stuck in my head.

Speaking of old skate footage....Have you seen him?

Well, have you? :icon_mrgreen:

It's winter time, which means the hotel down the street is draining their pool. I better go stretch, don't wanna pull a hammy. I usually only skate when there's a good pool. :icon_biggrin:

Gosh I'm derailing the hell out of this thread, but I rarely get to talk skate anymore.
Such as the fact that Steve Alba's sister is none other than Jessica Alba.   And that Jason Muir's(Z-Boy) brother is Mike Muir, the frontman for Suicidal Tendencies

Runmikerun found Won Ton Animal Chin outside a Chinese grocery in Vancouver, Canada.
I edited his face because I wasn't sure if he wanted it posted.

Version 2 of my Clipper Ship.

It includes a very revealing noise floor comparison with version 1 about 2/3 of the way through. My reaction when I actually compared them side by side was pretty much  :o

p.s. My kitty decided to play with a paper bag at various points in the video. Hopefully the rustling won't be too distracting ... it's just a dirt pedal, anyway.
