How to change DL4 LEDs? Anybody done it?

hey guys, im wanting to change my LED's in my DL4 so i can see them better on a dark stage at church that has red lights right above where i stand.
I opened up the DL4 and it uses all those little tiny resistors.... so im not sure now.

I've done it:



The LEDs are not surface mount, they're through-hole.  Just de-solder them and replace them with similar, standard 5mm LEDs.  It shouldn't be any different from doing it in any pedal with PCB-mounted LEDs.

Yeah i know the LEDs arent surface mount, but resistors are SM. So you didnt have to change out any resistors?

I have ultra bright violet ones (and bright blue) but seems like they would def need more power/ (less resistance) than the stock 3mm red LEDs....i guess?

You should be fine without changing the resistors.  Swapping to ultrabright will make them more visible for sure.  I can't give you much guidance a to which resistors matter, but if you determined which ones they were (perhaps with a continuity test from the LED's + end) you could avoid removing them by putting a resistor in series with them, thus decreasing the overall resistance.  The MM-4 pictured is modiifed for a variety of noisemaking bends, and the joystick works as an "expression pedal" with a built-in LFO.  More info here: http://experimentalistsanonymous.com/stuff/?id=modifiedmm4#modifiedmm4

Edit: Re 5mm vs 3mm, I used 5mm; I think either they just fit or I just drilled out the holes bigger.
