Etched enclosures

Hey guys.  I don't really hang out here, but I did create a facebook group for us.

Posting an image is a little convoluted, but very simple once you know how to do it. Save your photo to an image hosting site (I use Photobucket, but some people don't like it. Some popular ones are Flickr, Imgur, and TinyPic) and follow these instructions:

No pictures yet and apologies if there's a better thread, but thought I'd ask are most people chemically etching these I had a play using a vinigar and salt bath and electro etching aluminium with a 12v 4 amp power supply with reasonable results do other use this as opposed to chemicals?

I use electrical current at times as well.  Coincidentally, that's how I etched the POWER STAGES on my site.  I use current whenever acid doesn't bite

It was one of these things you add to an order to get over the free-postage-limit. So I gave it a try with this Aion Fractal build and quite like it!

Couldn't be much happier, I expected much less. The whole process was a lot smoother than with my previous etches with ferric chloride, although handling NaOH was much more unnerving.

I followed this guide, but used some weird cheap yellow toner transfer paper from china.

Question: Why did using NaOH unnerve you? I've always used Ferric Chloride, so I don't know the difference.

Question: Why did using NaOH unnerve you? I've always used Ferric Chloride, so I don't know the difference.

I tried to be overly cautious with the NaOH (sodium hydroxide/lye) solution because apparently it is highly corrosive to the skin (Fight Club!) and a drop to the eye may blind you.
E: And also etching metals with NaOH releases hydroxide, which should not be of much concern if you're in a well ventilated area and not prolongedly filling your lungs with it and suffocating. I did it in the parking lot of our apartment building, and kept away from the enclosure as it was etching.

I tried to be overly cautious with the NaOH ...

You can handle it (although I shouldn't recomend it) if your hands are dry. It is essentially the gold standard of bases, so once it gets wet, it gets hot and becomes very alkaline.
I would suggest you don't store the liquid solution - it is actually quite corrosive to glass - and can be disposed of down an outside drain when diluted.

Finally re-did a previous failure I posted. Last time, the enclosure came out great, but the circuit board was too wide to fit! Now upsized to a 125b, everything fits just right.

This is a Tube Screamer 808 ala GGG, with AMZ fat mod and diode selector switch. Otherwise, stock values. Have to say, this thing totally rocks with my newly restored Sovtek Mig 100H.
