@Rob

How did you cover the apparent massive areas that were not etched?
Did you use massive amounts of toner? Or did you use enamel or paint?
I just wonder how you managed to get all of the etch to line up if you didn't put on the resist "all in one shot"

hi lacky,  it is in one shot really....
i just use a laser toner image (on magazine paper).(best quality print).and used nail varnish for the edges, and top of the sides...and taped the sides with masking tape, then plastic tape over that...
just to stop the plastic tape leaving a nasty residue behind...this stops the sides being etched...sometimes i do cover larger areas with nail varnish too..but the magazine method, seems really great
at coverage...

 finally, heres my .'DUAL CRUCIFIER'  (double dr boogie) etched graphics, then clear coated to stop oxidization (keep it shiny) ive been wanting to build this for a long time, just never got round to it.
i ripped my old dr boogie apart and added 2 volumes/2 gains etc..nice high and low gain settings..and squeezed it all into a 1590bb.pheww!...@#$%ing awesome pedal much much better now!.and more versatile live.  :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted:

youtube demo soon!. :icon_wink:

special thanks to rick (frequency central) and (galego).. for their help with the wiring diagram..coz i'm a dumbass!.. :icon_redface:...cheers guys.!. :-*

Just seems to me that you would be using an HUGE amount of toner to cover those vast blank areas  :icon_eek:

Does that increase your transfer time?

my secretary (wife) does all my printing, she works for the house of lords?(another government lacky lol) and they have lovely new laser printers....so toner usage isnt any concern..
plus its nice to get something back for my taxes.. :icon_wink:
transfer time?...just as normal...in fact the magazine paper is the best method ive tried...and ive tried a few.. :icon_rolleyes: great coverage!..no residue either!..
no 'special paper/expensive pnp blue etc....and its recycling...lol..not that i give a monkeys about that!.. :icon_mrgreen:

These etchings are terrific.  Anybody know someone who provides this service for a per-enclosure fee?

My latest reverse etch..

deadastronaut

@niklas..beautiful....love the fish eye.. :icon_cool:

i havent tried a reverse etch yet...but will soon...

that doesnt look very deep...was it a pain to sand/paint?..

@niklas

Could you elaborate on how the reverse etch is accomplished?

I just do not see how you can paint the surface, then sand the "higher" edges without damaging the paint on the "lower" portions ???  ???

deadastronaut

you have to use a  flat sanding block so it only sands the raised parts...i think slade does it by having the sandpaper flat  on a desk, and rubs the box over it...

thats my 2p...

the fish does look very shallow as an etch though!...the band around the edge will keep it from digging in... :icon_wink:

Thanks Rob..  ;D

I am still working out my magazine transfer woes  :'( Gonna give it another thry this week  ;D

It just looks to me that a reverse etch would be MUCH easier than a standard etch. Less area to cover with resist and less masking.

deadastronaut

yeah less toner for sure...but you can always use less toner by just toning the out line of the important bits, and use nail varnish for the big areas... :icon_wink:

Thanks  :)
It's actually a very deep etch, and then several layers of spray paint. So when you sand it the paint and the etch almost line up.
And yeah, you have to use a sanding block. Also make shure your enclosure is sanded completely flat before applying the transfer.
Preparation is everything   :)
