Hello!

loads of great etched boxes lately!

I need a little help here: I tried reversed etch boxes for a while now and I think I almost there, but I 'm not quite satisfied with the "texture" of the finish. If you look closer the painted part is kind of goey-grainy with dull patches. I used classic spray paint and a layer of red laquer paint. I used 1000 grade sand paper to finish the box. What could I use to prevent this dull finish? Higher sand paper grade? clearcoats? Let me know!

Thanks in advance for you help.

 +1 lots of cool etches ...love that decimator... :icon_cool: :icon_cool: :icon_cool:

@poppyman:

i always stick a coat or 2 of clear over the whole box after etching/colouring, it shines the paint, and preserves the aluminium box shine too..

: my mate has a pedal i did without clear, and the aluminium finish has ''dimmed'' quite a bit compared to one i built for him that has a clearcoat finish...(built around the same time)

with car spray clear you can let it dry naturally , or whack it in a toaster for a little while..(not too hot)..just my 2p. :)

Thanks!  Rob ;)

Hi,

So, I followed deadastronaut's  advice (thanks again) and it made the finish very smooth and shiny looking. I'm very happy about it :)

The problem is that the clear coat doesn't really fix the uneven colour "dark/light stains" aspect of the paint after I sanded it. It looks kind of ok on this box but I'd like to be able to have a more consistant,  "homogeneous" colour...Any good advice for that?
